The Belgian Malinois

The Belgian Shepherd is a dog breed comprising four varieties (Laekenois, Groenendael, Tervueren, and Malinois). The Malinois—named after the Belgian city of Malines—is a superb working dog, but it is much more than that. Lively and hardy, this dog is obedient and a quick learner, provided it receives balanced and fair training. Loyal and devoted, it always seeks to please its owner. Playful and not overly independent, it makes an excellent family dog. This protective and endearing dog requires an owner with a "firm hand in a velvet glove," as one must respect its sensitivity while providing the necessary structure for this wonderful companion.
